The trouble with Digiphernia...

Reflecting back on week 12s lecture Keith mentioned the term "digiphrenia" it means "the experience of trying to exist in more than one incarnation of yourself at the same time"
a phrase that i think has so much relevance to the world that professional athletes, coaches and mentors in todays age.
Athletes are constantly living through muple identities existing in harmony with each other or more commonly disharmony, it is amazing to think an athlete would even consider potentially sabotaging there careers and personal lives by existing on a forum that allow millions of people, fans, critics, employers, club bodies to view every move under a microscope.

The obvious benefits are that now, athletes can connect with there fans directly and convey there own opinions rather than being distorted by the media, you could say social media is fast becoming the media today.
Controversial material that could potentially destroy an athletes career is able to be shared among millions in seconds, so one has to ask are the benefits of social media use warranted by athletes and people in the public eye.

Keith posted an  interesting article on the SCP facebook group  that i want to share as it has really got me thinking about strategies to combat this problem, there is a huge market for it.

thanks for reading!

  1. Hi, Sam.

I am delighted you picked up this theme. It is interesting how we can control our own identity. I thought this post elaborated your identity.
